About Us

Established in 2006, Evergreen has created a model that ensures quality care for residents with a wide range of needs. We employ a team of 130 staff and have provided palliative care for over 200 people from our community.

After years as a critical care nurse, Cindy Headrick, RN wanted to help the frail seniors she saw come and go from the Emergency Department. She asked her husband Calvin to help with a solution and here we are today.

The original plan for Evergreen was to be a 6-bed assisted living facility. Island Health heard of the plan, and reached out requesting long-term care beds. Along with a small group of local citizens, Cindy and Cal built Campbell River’s first private care facility.

Opened in April 2006, Evergreen’s first phase was a small 14-bed facility. Since then Evergreen has expanded twice, as the need for care continued to grow. New to Evergreen in 2022 is the launch of the pilot project ‘Levels of Care’ (LOC) which adds private short-term care options such as Transitional Care, Respite Care, Hospice Palliative Care and community outreach after the stay.

Mission

In the book, Being Mortal by Atul Gawande, he tells us that the very old do not fear death, bur rather what happens before death. The “continuous series of losses” and the “state of dependence”. . .

This is what fuels the passion, mission and vision at Evergreen. We are genuinely devoted to providing dignity, autonomy, privacy, and respect – with the support of flexible, individualized care. Our facility and services are designed to support residents with the ability to do things they still value. Our team will adjust as your physical, functional, cognitive or mental health decline.

When the reality of life occurs and Independence becomes impossible, we strive to provide the best possible day and we believe all residents have a right to high-quality person-centered care.

The facility has an amazing corporate culture, it is a testament to both management and staff and it is a rare occasion that I have seen such professional compassion. It is awesome. The team obviously has some well earned pride and investment in their work, not just the tasks at hand but the relationships too. Can’t say enough really. I am fortunate and glad to have my Mom at Evergreen.
