Starting Wage: $28.74

Job Summary:

The Nurse Assist (N.A) is a unique position at Evergreen, available to those in the BSN program.

The goal is to provide an opportunity for nursing students to increase their experience in areas such as care at the bedside, head to toe assessments and relational practice.

The N.A works alongside the Nurse (s) on duty (RN or LPN). The N.A is not solely responsible for the care of the residents.

Schedule:

The N.A works a rotation of 4 on; 4 off plus one additional 8 hour days shift every three weeks.

  • Two evenings – 1430-2230hrs, followed by two nights – 2245-0645hrs

  • One day shift every three weeks – 0645-1445hrs

The Relief/Casual N.A covers a variety of shifts, day, evening, nights.

Key Roles:

  • Residents are provided a copy of their care plan. The N.A will review the care plan with the resident and ensure an alignment in goals. This provides valuable experience in areas such as Consent and Capability, Advanced Care Planning and Compassionate Care.

  • The N.A will develop a deeper understanding of care planning for those with frailty, vulnerability and multiple comorbidities.

  • The N.A will gain more experience in symptom management for those with chronic illness and through end-of-life care.

  • The N.A provides assistance to residents with Activities of Daily Living (A.D.L’s)such as personal care, ambulation, washroom use, food and fluids.

  • The N.A assists with care of the home, including cleaning, laundry and stocking.

  • As all members of the team, the N.A will wear many hats to provide true person-centered care.

Other:

  • Vital Sign monitoring

  • Working with the Pharmacist and other members of the Multi disciplinary Team

  • Attendance at Care Conferences and Resident and Family Care Plan Meetings

  • Medication Administration

  • Colostomy Care

  • Skin and Wound Care

  • Catheter Care

  • Behavioural Care Planning

  • Special Handling Care Planning (alongside the Rehab team)

  • Care Planning and Documentation

Evening Shift 1445-2245hrs

  • Active member of the team, answering call bells and responding to individual resident needs

  • Medication Administration

  • Assistance with all ADL’s (personal care, ambulation, washroom, food and fluids)

  • Assistance with meals and snacks

Night Shift 2245-0645hrs

  • Active member of the team, caring for the residents, the team and the home

  • Cleaning, laundry and stocking

  • Repositioning residents

  • Medication Administration

  • Symptoms Assessment and Interventions

  • Organizing for Shift Report

  • Cleaning and Organizing resident charts

Day Shift 0645-1445hrs

  • Buddy shift with the Nurse on duty

  • Variety of duties as listed above
