Frequently Asked Questions

  • Couples share rooms. You would not be required to share a room with a stranger.

  • All linens and clothing are laundered onsite by our own staff. Clothing that is not washable and requires special handling (dry cleaning) are the responsibility of the resident or family.

  • Sheets are changed weekly or more often as the need determines and personal laundry is done when required.

  • The cost of medications is reimbursed through the Ministry of Health Pharmacare program. Those medications not completely covered by Pharmacare are paid for by the resident.

  • Residents are encouraged to bring any personal items and/or furniture to make their own room comfortable and feel at home as long as it does not cause a safety issue. However, any furniture supplied by Evergreen cannot be removed unless there is storage available.

  • Light cleaning is done daily and total clean is performed weekly.

  • Yes, special picture hooks are available for purchase.

  • Pastoral services are volunteer services – services are usually held weekly by alternating denominations. See activities calendar for schedule.

  • Evergreen is a pet friendly environment with rabbits, birds, chickens, fish and dogs of our own. We have no cats due to severe allergies. To ensure the safety and security of all – the pet visitation policy must be followed if family or friends wish to bring their pet for a visit.

  • Monthly accommodation are payable on the last business day prior to the 1st of each month by pre-authorized debit or post-dated cheque. Visa or Mastercard can be used – with an additional processing fee.

  • Residents that are assessed as incapable of leaving the facility unattended can come and go with those approved by the substitute decision maker (we make a plan together about who they can leave with).

  • Residents are encouraged to bring personal belongings into the home to make their suite more familiar.

  • The team will always give the support needed for residents to access the dining room. We view dining room trips as opportunities for exercise, and provide the right amount of assistance to allow for maximum participation in mobilizing from the resident while ensuring they are well supported in safety. We also provide assistance with meals, based on resident ability.

  • The bathing is individualized. Some bath daily, some two days per week.

  • Yes, absolutely. Please send an email to weareateam@evergreenseniors.com if you plan to attend. Spouse meals are complimentary, guest meals are by donation.

  • There is no assigned seating for meals. Residents can opt to dine in their room, in the dining room, at other dining areas throughout the facility.

  • We consider family essential and welcome your involvement.

  • This is no problem. Alcohol must be stored securely.

  • Residents will continue with their own family physician if the physician continues care into long-term care. If the physician does not, Evergreen can assist in obtaining a physician that does.

  • For the convenience of the resident, money may be deposited in a trust account in the resident’s name at administration office to allow access to spending money during the day. Money can be withdrawn Monday through Thursday. We cannot be held responsible for valuables or money kept in a resident’s room. It is recommended that only a small amount of money be kept on hand ( i.e. $5.00 – $20.00).

  • There are no restrictions on visiting hours. Entrance and exit is through the front door only. The sign in and out book is at the front reception desk.

  • For the safety and protection of residents, fire drills are held. If the fire alarms rings, residents and guests must return to their rooms. Doors will close automatically. Please close windows if you are able. Your nurse will keep you informed and give you further instructions as necessary.

  • Evergreen provides basic wheelchairs. Residents are encouraged to obtain their own specialized equipment such as tilt in space wheelchairs or other specialized seating as each resident’s seating and safety needs are unique. Motorized wheelchairs/scooters are assessed on an individual basis and are allowed once the resident is deemed capable by a driving assessment by OT/ PT. Power mobility assessments that are found to be safe then require a damage deposit and Power Mobility Agreement to be signed by the resident / decision maker. Storage of power mobility for outdoor use only. If not already owned, we have Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy to assist in the assessment, procurement, and funding advocacy for wheelchair seating and power mobility. If the resident is in a private pay bed they may be eligible for support for these assessments through Island Health, otherwise these are private pay Therapy Assessments for Seating are funded by the resident.

  • Professional hairdressing is twice per week in the salon, and HCAs provide daily support for resident's to look go through their morning routines as they usually would (doing hair, grooming, make up as per resident preference/ usual).

  • Activities can be individualized, small or large group and range from bingo, bowling, picnics, music, art and crafts, local musicians and performers such as belly-dancers, swimming, shopping, events at the Tidemark, etc.

  • An activity calendar is posted at various locations every month. All residents receive individual calendars for their rooms.

  • We have a wheelchair accessible van used for resident outings. The van may be booked for personal appointments if the time does not conflict with outings. There are additional charges for taking the van on outings and to appointments.

  • We have a fully fenced property, with gardens, walking paths, and a chicken coop. Doors are unlocked during the day, so those wanting to get out for some sun and fresh air are able.
