Costs

Daily Rate

Health Care facilities base their funding on a daily rate, called a per diem, for the “bed” occupied. The majority of the per diem is staffing costs. Each type of care, acute hospital versus long-term care, requires different staffing levels and therefore different per diems.

On average, the per diem for a hospital bed start at $1500/day or more. Long-term care bed per diem ranges between $200-$300. Transitional care beds range between $350-$450, and hospice palliative care beds range between $500.00-$550.00/day.

Cost of Care

No matter how a bed is funded, government or private, the costs for that bed should be relatively similar. Publicly funded beds are a shared cost between the resident and the Ministry of Health. Evergreen has 33 publicly funded beds.

Our private pay rates are in alignment with the Ministry of Health rates, and are required to provide safe, quality care, and adequate staffing. Our staffing is above the provincial mandated amount.
