Long-term Care

Evergreen has 33 publicly funded long-term care beds and 25 privately funded beds. The publicly funded beds waitlist is managed by the Island Health Authority with 2+ years average length time. The privately funded bed waitlist is managed directly through Evergreen with a 6month- 1year waitlist.

The cost of privately funded long-term care is $265.00/day and is the sole responsibility of the resident. There may be opportunity for financial assistance if third party payers’ are involved such as Veteran’s Affairs Canada, Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, Extended Health

Care such as Blue Cross, Green Shield, etc.

Long-term care is suitable to those experiencing:

  • Frequent hospitalizations in the past six months

  • Increasing weakness, fatigue, and somnolence

  • A change in cognitive and functional abilities

  • Compromised Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring/walking, and continence

  • Deteriorating mental abilities

  • Recurrent Infections

  • Skin breakdown

  • Specific decline in condition

To be assessed for private care, the following will take place:

  • Completion of the application for accommodation (fillable PDF)

  • Review of application for acceptance to the waitlist

  • Submit a $500 deposit when accepted to the waitlist

Hospice Care

Evergreen has 4 community hospice suites provided through a partnership between Evergreen, Hospice Society and Island Health. The one-bedroom self contained suites include a fully outfitted kitchen, in-suite laundry, resident bedroom, a secondary sleeping nook, a hide-a-bed couch in the living room, and an accessible bathroom with wheel chair accessible shower. With an eye to comfort, families will enjoy a fireplace, outdoor patio and two TVs. Suites are accessible directly from the parking lot, allowing families and visitors convenience and 24/7 flexibility.

The Campbell River Hospice Society supports the suites with psycho-social care by offering free professional counselling, respite, vigil support and relaxation therapies.

To access the suites, please discuss if you or a loved one is eligible for hospice care. The following criteria must be met: The client is 19 years of age or older, is enrolled in the BC Palliative Care Benefits Program and has been diagnosed with an end-stage illness with a life expectancy of three months, or less.


Respite Care

Evergreen offers one respite bed available for short term bookings. The respite care is only available as a privately funded option.

Respite covers personal care, assistance with medication and recreational and engagement opportunities. Respite stays are not for medical care and therefore vital signs are only monitored if resident is symptomatic or experiencing a health status change.

Transitional Care

Evergreen’s transitional care provides an integrated approach to care, with an average length of stay of up to 30-90 days. When admitted, residents will have a known discharge location (typically home) and planning for discharge starts as soon as residents arrive.

There is a high level of activation in this level of care to support residents in building strength and stamina and Evergreen provides care navigation services to optimize community reintegration.
